India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.79%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Auto , Consumer Durables and Technology sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.79%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.77%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS: EICH ), which rose 8.65% or 422.80 points to trade at 5,308.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS: BJFS ) added 7.88% or 124.25 points to end at 1,700.65 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS: BJFN ) was up 6.54% or 453.90 points to 7,389.20 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS: SUN ), which fell 0.63% or 11.95 points to trade at 1,878.00 at the close. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS: BRIT ) declined 0.14% or 6.95 points to end at 4,787.80 and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS: REDY ) was up 0.44% or 6.05 points to 1,375.05.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO: BJFS ) which rose 7.75% to 1,698.90, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO: BJFN ) which was up 6.25% to settle at 7,370.00 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO: MRTI ) which gained 5.43% to close at 11,830.15.

The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO: SUN ) which was down 0.78% to 1,875.00 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO: ICBK ) which gained 0.51% to settle at 1,290.95 and JSW Steel Ltd (BO: JSTL ) which was up 0.55% to 910.50 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1387 to 855 and 148 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2259 rose and 1530 declined, while 111 ended unchanged.

Shares in Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS: EICH ) rose to all time highs; gaining 8.65% or 422.80 to 5,308.10.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.91% to 13.65.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.58% or 15.24 to $2,656.24 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.13% or 0.81 to hit $72.53 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.03% or 0.77 to trade at $75.41 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.30% to 85.70, while EUR/INR rose 0.09% to 88.65.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 108.38.
