Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 1.44%
Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the IT , Materials and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.44% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ), which rose 9.76% or 0.12 points to trade at 1.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Storagevault Canada Inc (TSX: SVI ) added 7.24% or 0.27 points to end at 4.00 and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX: INE ) was up 5.05% or 0.43 points to 8.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX: IVN ), which fell 11.26% or 1.90 points to trade at 14.97 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TSX: IMG ) declined 8.93% or 0.80 points to end at 8.16 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX: FM ) was down 8.45% or 1.60 points to 17.34.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 660 to 247 and 99 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.81% to 14.99.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.19% or 5.61 to $2,950.49 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 3.09% or 2.24 to hit $70.24 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.92% or 2.23 to trade at $74.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.39% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 106.55.
