Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology , Utilities and Industrials sectors led shares higher while losses in the Consumer Goods , Telecoms and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.43%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.02%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.26%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA ), which rose 3.67% or 4.65 points to trade at 131.28 at the close. Meanwhile, Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE: SHW ) added 1.86% or 6.56 points to end at 359.59 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS ) was up 1.18% or 1.30 points to 111.83 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Boeing Co (NYSE: BA ), which fell 2.93% or 5.23 points to trade at 173.04 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ: AMGN ) declined 2.93% or 9.25 points to end at 306.38 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL ) was down 2.70% or 6.68 points to 240.36.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ: AXON ) which rose 15.25% to 572.40, Intuit Inc (NASDAQ: INTU ) which was up 12.58% to settle at 625.51 and Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ: SMCI ) which gained 12.23% to close at 51.11.

The worst performers were Centene Corp (NYSE: CNC ) which was down 7.22% to 56.90 in late trade, Molina Healthcare Inc (NYSE: MOH ) which lost 6.95% to settle at 284.71 and Keysight Technologies Inc (NYSE: KEYS ) which was down 6.86% to 160.36 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Enveric Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ: ENVB ) which rose 94.92% to 2.30, Heramba Electric PLC (NASDAQ: PITA ) which was up 86.59% to settle at 0.69 and Porch Group Inc (NASDAQ: PRCH ) which gained 74.14% to close at 6.60.

The worst performers were Venus Concept Inc (NASDAQ: VERO ) which was down 40.74% to 0.32 in late trade, Flywire Corp (NASDAQ: FLYW ) which lost 37.36% to settle at 11.05 and Organovo Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: ONVO ) which was down 33.07% to 0.85 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1386 to 1380 and 92 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1806 rose and 1471 declined, while 147 ended unchanged.

Shares in Flywire Corp (NASDAQ: FLYW ) fell to all time lows; losing 37.36% or 6.59 to 11.05. Shares in Porch Group Inc (NASDAQ: PRCH ) rose to 52-week highs; rising 74.14% or 2.81 to 6.60.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.70% to 19.10.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.51% or 14.97 to $2,933.77 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.19% or 0.13 to hit $68.80 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.34% or 0.25 to trade at $72.25 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 1.05, while USD/JPY rose 0.07% to 149.13.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 106.48.
