Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering , Banking and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.59% to hit a new all time high.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Weir Group PLC (LON: WEIR ), which rose 6.30% or 144.00 points to trade at 2,430.00 at the close. Meanwhile, IMI PLC (LON: IMI ) added 5.81% or 110.00 points to end at 2,002.00 and Persimmon PLC (LON: PSN ) was up 4.74% or 54.50 points to 1,205.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON: SWR ), which fell 2.61% or 110.00 points to trade at 4,104.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON: ANTO ) declined 2.45% or 43.50 points to end at 1,733.50 and Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON: SMT ) was down 2.21% or 23.50 points to 1,042.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1111 to 655 and 614 ended unchanged.

Shares in Weir Group PLC (LON: WEIR ) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 6.30% or 144.00 to 2,430.00.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.25% or 36.11 to $2,859.79 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.94% or 0.66 to hit $69.69 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.16% or 0.85 to trade at $72.72 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.12% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 107.22.
