Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Technology , Oil & Gas and Telecoms sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.01%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.16%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.46%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS ), which rose 1.43% or 1.43 points to trade at 101.61 at the close. Meanwhile, Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL ) added 1.36% or 3.00 points to end at 223.73 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE: JPM ) was up 1.24% or 3.07 points to 251.13 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Merck & Company Inc (NYSE: MRK ), which fell 4.81% or 4.44 points to trade at 87.87 at the close. Walmart Inc (NYSE: WMT ) declined 3.13% or 2.74 points to end at 84.75 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ: AMGN ) was down 2.39% or 7.52 points to 306.86.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were International Paper (NYSE: IP ) which rose 6.49% to 56.26, Qorvo Inc (NASDAQ: QRVO ) which was up 3.73% to settle at 75.63 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA ) which gained 3.44% to close at 287.96.

The worst performers were United Parcel Service Inc (NYSE: UPS ) which was down 5.05% to 109.95 in late trade, Merck & Company Inc (NYSE: MRK ) which lost 4.81% to settle at 87.87 and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: REGN ) which was down 4.06% to 634.14 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Tenon Medical Inc (NASDAQ: TNON ) which rose 283.40% to 3.75, Golden Heaven Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ: GDHG ) which was up 94.39% to settle at 3.81 and DatChat Inc (NASDAQ: DATS ) which gained 75.00% to close at 3.78.

The worst performers were Mural Oncology PLC (NASDAQ: MURA ) which was down 61.62% to 1.47 in late trade, Imac Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: BACK ) which lost 52.65% to settle at 0.20 and Cns Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: CNSP ) which was down 51.78% to 1.63 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1611 to 1172 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2213 fell and 1082 advanced, while 121 ended unchanged.

Shares in United Parcel Service Inc (NYSE: UPS ) fell to 3-years lows; falling 5.05% or 5.85 to 109.95. Shares in Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: REGN ) fell to 52-week lows; falling 4.06% or 26.86 to 634.14. Shares in Mural Oncology PLC (NASDAQ: MURA ) fell to all time lows; down 61.62% or 2.36 to 1.47. Shares in Imac Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: BACK ) fell to all time lows; down 52.65% or 0.22 to 0.20. Shares in Cns Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: CNSP ) fell to all time lows; down 51.78% or 1.75 to 1.63.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.89% to 17.15 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.36% or 10.94 to $3,054.94 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.10% or 0.07 to hit $69.18 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.23% or 0.17 to trade at $72.54 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.50% to 149.91.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 103.86.
