Canada stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.14%
Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Staples , Materials and Telecoms sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.14%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX: TXG ), which rose 7.39% or 2.65 points to trade at 38.52 at the close. Meanwhile, Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX: SSL ) added 7.13% or 0.70 points to end at 10.52 and Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX: ELD ) was up 5.33% or 1.20 points to 23.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BRP Inc (TSX: DOO ), which fell 6.88% or 3.75 points to trade at 50.78 at the close. Nutrien Ltd (TSX: NTR ) declined 4.81% or 3.62 points to end at 71.62 and NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX: NG ) was down 4.73% or 0.22 points to 4.43.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 490 to 410 and 104 ended unchanged.
Shares in Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX: TXG ) rose to all time highs; gaining 7.39% or 2.65 to 38.52. Shares in BRP Inc (TSX: DOO ) fell to 3-years lows; down 6.88% or 3.75 to 50.78. Shares in Sandstorm Gold Ltd. (TSX: SSL ) rose to 52-week highs; up 7.13% or 0.70 to 10.52.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.24% to 13.58.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.34% or 10.44 to $3,054.44 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.12% or 0.08 to hit $69.19 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.18 to trade at $72.55 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.41% to 0.65.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 103.87.
