U.K. stocks lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 1.56%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Banking , Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.56% to hit a new 1-month low.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Severn Trent PLC (LON: SVT ), which rose 5.82% or 148.00 points to trade at 2,693.00 at the close. Meanwhile, SSE PLC (LON: SSE ) added 5.02% or 79.00 points to end at 1,653.00 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON: UU ) was up 4.59% or 47.00 points to 1,071.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Standard Chartered PLC (LON: STAN ), which fell 13.32% or 153.50 points to trade at 999.00 at the close. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON: HSBA ) declined 8.87% or 78.30 points to end at 804.70 and Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON: SWR ) was down 8.77% or 314.00 points to 3,267.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1394 to 516 and 476 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.18% or 37.51 to $3,128.69 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 6.93% or 4.97 to hit $66.74 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 6.51% or 4.88 to trade at $70.07 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.78% to 1.31, while EUR/GBP rose 1.02% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.77% at 101.65.
