Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 3.78%

Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp , Transport and Communication sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 3.78%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Japan Steel Works Ltd (TYO: 5631 ), which rose 3.92% or 179.00 points to trade at 4,745.00 at the close. Meanwhile, West Japan Railway Co. (TYO: 9021 ) added 1.80% or 51.50 points to end at 2,905.00 and Hino Motors, Ltd. (TYO: 7205 ) was up 1.36% or 5.10 points to 379.10 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO: 6506 ), which fell 8.85% or 259.00 points to trade at 2,666.50 at the close. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO: 6976 ) declined 8.67% or 167.50 points to end at 1,765.00 and Lasertec Corp (TYO: 6920 ) was down 8.46% or 970.00 points to 10,490.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 3226 to 550 and 91 ended unchanged.

Shares in Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO: 6506 ) fell to 5-year lows; down 8.85% or 259.00 to 2,666.50. Shares in Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO: 6976 ) fell to 5-year lows; falling 8.67% or 167.50 to 1,765.00. Shares in Lasertec Corp (TYO: 6920 ) fell to 3-years lows; losing 8.46% or 970.00 to 10,490.00.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.10% to 27.84.

Crude oil for May delivery was down 2.82% or 1.68 to $57.90 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 2.50% or 1.57 to hit $61.25 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 2.19% or 65.59 to trade at $3,055.79 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.95% to 144.87, while EUR/JPY rose 0.07% to 160.41.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.88% at 101.80.
