Portugal stocks higher at close of trade; PSI up 1.40%

Investing.com – Portugal stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Services , Utilities and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Lisbon, the PSI rose 1.40%.

The best performers of the session on the PSI were Jeronimo Martins SGPS SA (ELI: JMT ), which rose 4.58% or 0.96 points to trade at 21.90 at the close. Meanwhile, EDP Renovaveis (ELI: EDPR ) added 2.62% or 0.20 points to end at 7.84 and Semapa (ELI: SEM ) was up 2.15% or 0.34 points to 16.07 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nos SGPS SA (ELI: NOS ), which rose 0.13% or 0.01 points to trade at 3.72 at the close. Corticeira Amorim (ELI: CORA ) added 0.14% or 0.01 points to end at 7.37 and Galp Energia Nom (ELI: GALP ) was up 0.44% or 0.06 points to 13.55.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Lisbon Stock Exchange by 20 to 7 and 1 ended unchanged.

Shares in Jeronimo Martins SGPS SA (ELI: JMT ) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.58% or 0.96 to 21.90.

Brent oil for June delivery was up 2.66% or 1.76 to $68.02 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.11% or 1.94 to hit $64.35 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.01% or 0.39 to trade at $3,425.69 a troy ounce.

EUR/USD was down 0.49% to 1.15, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.50% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 98.41.
